Oh, also, granting Gifts/wishes: Basically this is a part of being a genie, and the way I picture it is I swirl my hand through the air and a small purple gem with black swirls appears in my hand. They take it, and it sinks into their skin as a small black mole in their palm until they evoke it, either by thought or spoken word. When they use it, there's a tiny purple flame over the spot, and then a flash of black light, and their Gift has been expended. They have to then return to get another, if they want.

Her name is Clio. She's scrawny with bright eyes, and she glimpsed strange wonders.
STATS: Hot -1 Cold +1 Volatile -1 Dark +2
FIRST INVENTION: A pair of headphones that mimics the Vampire's Hypnosis move. The headphones are cordless, but part of the machine is a CD player. The machine's fault is that it takes a Harm to use it, because the hypnotizer's got to put some of their blood into the CD player.
I may have tried it on that bully master of yours, Lilith, but I'm saving backstory options for later.
Inventions: You can create wonders of super-science. When you have time and space to build something, roll with Dark. On a 10+, your creation is finished, and can do one of the following:
-Replace the stat rolled for one of the Basic Moves (e.g., Lash Out Physically with Dark) -Duplicate the effects of a Move from another Skin -Heal one Harm, once per scene -Give someone a specific Condition
Your invention also possesses one of the following faults (the MC picks one): -It has a will of its own. -It tends to malfunction in the presence of regular people. -It can only be used once. -It’s cumbersome. -It deals one Harm to whoever uses it.
On a 7-9, there are unexpected complications. You choose: -You get it working, but the MC chooses two faults instead of one. -You’re missing some key ingredient. The MC will tell you what it is. It’s up to you to figure out how to get it.
Mere Mortals: When you ignore your peers in favor of your inventions, someone involved (your choice) loses a String on you. When you’re convinced to leave your lab to attend a social function, whoever invited you gains a String on you and you mark experience.
Basically, Clio's deal is, she was in the right place at the right time and witnessed some kind of cosmic event -- at least, that's what she thinks. It might have just been gazing into the abyss. Anyway, she saw a great big glittering city, the colors impossibly bright, sailing-ships flying in the sky, surrounded by a sparkling ocean. She needs to find out what it is and where it is and why she saw it and HOW TO GET THERE.

Sweet Sounds pretty cool. What are your background options? I have: Somebody asked you for a Gift and did something really bad with it. Ask them what and take 3 Strings on them. One of them caught you by surprise by doing something for you without asking anything in return. This cannot be. You’re going to discover why, but right now, ask them what they did and give them two Strings on you.

Hi guys ^_^ My current plan is to play a Wyrm who is a British exchange student. I don't really know too well about how to work this site very well, gonna have bloodyvalentine show me tomorrow. Anyway, I figured his shtick/hoard would be books. Not like you'd find in a library though, but personal books. Like diaries, sketchbooks, problem books, handwritten manuscripts with notes in the margins, that sort of thing. Jote, I spose we should pm about this? Let me know ^_^ I need to get the book, but I'm thinking about his other move "Jealousy's Coils" or something, I cannot remember the exact wording.
I will work more through the backstory after conversing more with y'all and seeing what you think would be a fun additive to the group that also fits what I would like to play. I think a couple characteristics that simply fit in with the skin are a degree of controlling and jealousy, and at least a little bit of pretentiousness. Will talk more soon

I think it'd be interesting to give the Gift to Clio and see what she did with it, and the nice act was the Wyrm, just because it's totally different from expectations I have the Gifts of Protection and Wealth. Clio, which do you think you'd do something bad with? And Wyrm-boy, what did you do for me that was so nice?

Ok, Marcus and I talked about his nice deed, and I think this is how it went. Joey has actually made TWO wishes, the first for the Gift of Wealth, and the other was a general wish that "I would be at his beck and call whenever he needed me," which led me to be magically in the school. Joey is pissed that I stiffed him on a wish, as far as he can tell, and starts fighting with me in the hallway. The Wyrm heard us fighting and, since I was not sure what to bring to school, he saw a VERY nice book in my backpack that he just had to have. The Wyrm comes over, and firmly shuts Joey down, at the same time defending me and making himself seem like a knight in shining armor. He doesn't ask for the book yet, just tells me to have a good day and goes to class. So now, since I don't know he wants the book, I'm determined to find out what his game is.
I mean, nobody is ever nice like that without a purpose. (By the way, this will be my In Character color for speech and descriptive stuff.)
So, Clio, what Gift did you ask for and what bad thing did you do with it? (This means I have 3 strings on you to start.)

Name: Ptolemy Look: Expensive, Unblinking Eyes Origin: In your blood
As for my starting strings, I declare other PCs as either "merely currency" or "treasure." So miss Lilith is treasure as I have seen her in possession of a book that looked very well maintained... but with a language I did not recognize on the spine and so I have to have it. I have come to know Clio as the girl who stays outta the way with headphones on and doesn't talk to people, so she is "merely currency." This means I give a string to Lilith and get one from Clio, and you need to include something off putting I said about you. It was probably something dismissive or something like that, but just let me know. If you want to wait until I describe my character more that is cool ^_^

My current plan for his backstory is his parents are more traditional hoarders: they like the gold and the sparkly. They are very wealthy private brokers named Uther and Victoria from a line of very wealthy private brokers, and go to estate sales of recently deceased collectors around the world who happened to be killed by some unknown creature that left massive claw and bite marks. Either way, they are essentially never home, as their job and hunger for shinies forces them to constantly be traveling, so they have hired a nanny that is a fill in parent. The family also has a butler that was with them before they moved to America.
Ptolemy was raised British, but his family moved to America when the other Wyrms that lived in England discovered what they were doing around the world, and kicked them out of the symbiotic group of other Wyrm brokers. My idea is that there are collections of Wyrms spread out across the world, and England was home to the most rich group when his great(a few greats) grandparents settled there. They would all collect items for themselves as well as for the others, and then would trade between one another for wealth or objects of their own desires. They kicked out Ptolemy's parents for their unethical methods of obtaining what they desired, so they moved to America to integrate with the American society of Wyrms, which were all obsessed with the simple currency aspect of wealth, and held positions such as CEOs of banks, oil companies and almost entirely ran Wall Street. This all happened at the beginning of Ptolemy's time in high school, and now I'm assuming we are in junior or senior year so it has been 2 or 3 full years.
He is not an obviously pretentious fuck but he is still kind of one simply because of his ignorance of how most people live their day to day lives without money, so he is often dismissive of others problems. He also has a naturally obsessive personality when it comes to the thoughts, ideas or drawings of those he values greatly, although he has found that almost all of these people are dead and so he settles for diaries, sketchbooks and the like. He also has a deep ingrained hatred of being left behind or ignored (which he is not totally aware of) as his parents have done so his entire life. This causes him to really latch onto people he holds in high esteem, and can be almost inexplicably jealous or petty when he believes others are trying to take that person away from him. He also likes tea and biscuits, and is THAT KID who brings his own tea to school in a very nice thermos. He keeps classy tea cups in his locker. He prefers smaller groups as opposed to party scenes, as he likes to gossip with smaller groups. He is also very suave and quite british, although he has dropped most of his british sayings for american mannerisms. The accent sticks though, mostly because of his british butler and nanny.

Oh man, this sounds all really awesome. I'm quite curious about these sketchbooks, Ptolmey. Is there one that you treasure the most? Do you have any plans for using Currency-Clio to obtain Treasure-Lilith? Also did you still need the Second Skins book? Clio: What was the inspiration for your Hypnophones?

TIME TO ANSWER ALL OF THE QUESTIONS.
Clio is about 5'5", bony, with thick black hair in a long ponytail and blue eyes. Glasses, of course. She dresses in jeans and t-shirts and hoodies and lace-up boots, nothing unusual, just uncool enough to mark her as the kind of person who will never go to a dance or a football game but could probably tell you all about Dune, but also not trendy enough to be a hipster.
As for the gift, Lilith, I don't know -- is building headphones with the potential to mind-control someone REALLY BAD enough for your backstory? I'm imagining she took the Gift of Wealth and is using it to fund her laboratory in her parents' basement, acquiring supplies for inventions. The basement is basically her space -- it consists of her bedroom, a former living area, and a former unfinished storage area, both of which have been repurposed for SCIENCE. Oh and a tiny, messy bathroom. She also has a part-time tech-support job at a Best Buy, which is where she says this money is coming from, because she's got to tell her parents something.
Oh, and she has parents. Real, flesh and blood parents who care about her and worry a little about the fact that she hasn't made many friends, if any. They have her best interests at heart and try hard to be supportive, even if what they think is best and what she thinks is best don't always align. They communicate very poorly.
SPEAKING OF BACKSTORY Ptolemy, she might have ranted to you about her ideas. If you're down for this backstory option and would have laughed at her, go ahead and take that String.
As for my headphones, I saw somebody listening to their ipod one day, just sort of bouncing their head back and forth, and I thought, he looks like he's in some kind of trance. Music can put people in an altered state. So what if I came up with something that really did alter their state? Could I harness the power of beats and rhythm and sound and access the part of the brain that responds involuntarily to music? I know it sounds like nightblogging, and it may have happened at three in the morning, but I worked through the night on that machine, and when the sun came up the next morning, I had a direct link to the human brain THROUGH SOUND.
I think I dozed off while I was making them, because I was thinking about that city again -- I do that a lot, when I'm stuck on something or I think something's beautiful or I'm just bored -- and I dozed off for a little bit. Twenty-minute power naps. They're a thing. I think I dreamed about the city, but I don't remember much about it. I wish I could. It was a good dream.

I got the second skins book, thanks ^_^
I think the most important thing to him would be a sketchbook from the more well known Ptolemy, which has sketches of charted stars, unanswered or answered questions around each, mathematical equations he had long given up on or solved later in life... that sort of thing. So much so he has actually written/sketched out an exact a copy as he can so that he can go through and fill in all the blanks that he can figure out. So yeah, kinda obsessive.
Also, Clio, question for you. Would your inventing be known about? Because if you are constantly writing stuff in class that clearly has nothing to do with class or thinking alone... basically being mysterious and recording it he would actually be very curious about you and your mind, making you a treasure to him. Up to you. He is quite curious and a bit jealous and greedy, so if you appear to be doing something brilliant that he can't seem to figure out he will want to know, and treat you with feigned respect until he can figure out if you are actually important intellectually or just a lonely nut. So essentially if you are noticeably curious and intelligent about things he hasn't encountered yet you are a treasure but if you are completely under the radar then that's alright. If your bad use of Lilith's gift is well known however, you definitely are interesting enough to be counted as "treasure" rather than currency.

Clio: Making the headphones could have been, if you used the wealth to make them and then used them to make someone do something AWFUL. WHat have you used them for so far?
Wyrm: I'm thinking the journal is one I stole from the Sultan, to learn his secrets and how he thought so I could try to become more attractive to him. Now it's just a reminder of home when I forget who I used to be. There are women mentioned, but none of the names sound like me.
